Meet CREW Pittsburgh Member, Julie Katora, CBRE!
What role do you play in the commercial real estate industry?
At CBRE, I am a Strategic Sourcing Manager within the autonomous electric vehicle industry. My portfolio is in San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix, Texas and Munich.
How did you get started in your current position?
My career absolutely found me and found me again! In the early 2000s, I finished my last graphic design project without an idea where my next chapter would begin. I decided to try temporary positions at Robert Half and started in escrow at First American Title in Salinas, CA. I then transitioned to residential real estate, earned my California Notary, Salesperson, and Brokers Licenses. As our lending markets had a drastic reset I moved away from real estate and returned to Pittsburgh. Through a recommendation, I restarted my real state journey again in Lease Administration. For over 8 years, I grew at JLL. Through mentorships and networking I moved into procurement.
What are your interests and/or hobbies outside of work?
Remodeling our 100+ years home with my husband, gardening, candle making, live music, hiking, fishing, cycling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Where is your favorite place to go out in Pittsburgh (Strip District, zoo, cultural district, etc.)?
I love our trails. Biking and hiking are great ways to appreciate our city as well as discover new places to dine and appreciate.
What did you learn from your biggest failure?
Failures are just as important as our successes. Not only does a failure teach us to step back and see the big picture, failures allow us to help others.
What are you hoping to achieve with your CREW membership?
Meaningful connections, supporting others, professional and personal growth.
How do you achieve balance between work and home life?
Taking time to be creative.
Tell us something people may find surprising about you.
I love using power tools. I am proud to know I can lay tile and flooring.
Do you have any pets? What kind(s) and what are their name(s)?
We are at the city limit with 5 rescues. Our dogs -Eddie (Scotty Yorkie), Porky (English Bulldog) and our cats – Sully, Matt the Cat and Meera.
